Class C water is treated recycled water typically used to irrigate racetracks, golf courses, vineyards, recreational reserves and agricultural irrigation under Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) Guidelines.

GWMWater is seeking proposals from individuals, companies or organisations in the area for up to 500ML per year of Class C recycled water.

Managing Director Mark Williams said the Horsham Agriculture SmartWater and Integrated Water Management Project, to be constructed in 2023, would improve the quality and accessibility of recycled water to customers in urban and rural areas within the project footprint.

“GWMWater is investing in sustainable opportunities for customers who have previously relied on drinking water to use on green areas and for commercial use,” he said.

Once constructed, a SmartWater recycled water pipeline will run along the Wimmera Highway from Rudolphs Rd to the Horsham Racecourse, as well as north along Curran Rd and across to Blue Ribbon Rd.

The project has been funded through the Commonwealth and Victorian State governments, Agriculture Victoria and GWMWater.

Customers along the planned SmartWater pipeline route and nearby the Horsham Wastewater Treatment Plant are encouraged to submit proposals for the purchase and reuse of recycled water.

An expression of interest form must be submitted to GWMWater for review to determine feasibility and costs of any new infrastructure requirements.

Expression of Interest forms are available on the GWMWater website at www.gwmwater.org.au/horshamrecycledwatereoi or by contacting Call Centre on 1300 659 961.
