Responding to climate change

Energy and greenhouse management is an emerging issue for GWMWater. With the commissioning of the Wimmera Mallee Pipeline Project, greenhouse gas emissions are predicted to rise significantly as demands increase.

GWMWater has undertaken preliminary investigations to cost-effectively reduce greenhouse emissions. GWMWater aims to reach the condition of carbon neutrality, or zero net emissions. In the interim, a target of a minimum 15% reduction compared with ‘business as usual’ is set and is achievable between now and 2013.

How will GWMWater achieve the 15% target?

  • 10% of electricity requirements purchased from renewable sources.
  • Offset 100% of fleet emissions.
  • Implement a range of identified activities/ projects.
