Water conference

Each year, Year 9 and 10 students from selected schools throughout the region are invited to participate in GWMWater’s annual water research program which looks at whether our water use is sustainable today, tomorrow and beyond.

This program links into VELS and provides students with an opportunity to investigate water use in their local area. The culmination of student research is presented at GWMWater’s annual water conference at the University of Ballarat, Horsham campus.

2010 Conference

Hopetoun, Dimboola, Edenhope, Horsham and Brentwood College students presented their research findings on the topic 'Is OUR water use sustainable today, tomorrow and beyond' at the annual Year 9 and 10 conference in Horsham on 18 June, 2010.

Students from Tauranga Girls School New Zealand and Al-Mashoor Islamic Boys School, Jalan Air Itam, Penang, Malaysia presented information about water use in their countries, using video internet technology.

The conference was broadcast live on our website and was supported by the Victorian Government’s Smart Water Fund and the University of Ballarat.

Gwylim Klippel-Cooper from Adelaide spoke on his experience as a result of winning the Australian Junior Water Prize and subsequent trip to Stockholm.

Students were able to pose questions regarding GWMWater’s management of water in our region to Board and senior management of GWMWater as part of the program.

Students from Tauranga Girls School New Zealand amazed participants with their enlightening talk on drought in an area that normally receives high rainfall. Using video internet technology, the New Zealand School was one of three that presented information remotely during the day.

The conference was broadcast live on our website and was supported by the Victorian Government’s Smart Water Fund and the University of Ballarat.
